The Lake Mary Township monthly meeting was called to order by Chairman, James Schmidt, with the pledge to the flag at 7:00 PM.
Members present: Supervisors: James Schmidt, Max Radil, and Pete Fernholz;
Clerk, Sue Hanson, and Treasurer, Christy Tvrdik.
A Motion was made by Pete Fernholz to approve the agenda, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried 3-0.
A Motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the claims and disbursements #6386-6405, 941-2024-4, and PERA0125 in the amount of $19,304.45, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
A Motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the December 2024 minutes, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
TREASURERS REPORT: There are no outstanding checks. Interest rates on investments were discussed, interest rates have slowly declined in the past few months. A letter was received from the IRS on E-filing information like 1099’s. A discussion was had. Christy will check into more and sign up for an E-filing number. A Motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the Treasures report as read, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried 3-0.
ITEMS FROM THE FLOOR: None
ROAD DISCUSSION:
Culverts: Funding for culverts in 2023 and 2024 was being taken out of the Capital Projects fund due to a negative balance in the Road and Bridge Fund. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to go back to funding the culverts through the Road and Bridge fund, 2nd byPete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
Newsletter: The 2025 Newsletter has been updated. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the 2025 Newsletter, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried 3-0.
BSSA-Public Utilities Commissions: Max Radil went to a meeting today put on by the MN Dept of Commerce. A discussion was had, and they are narrowing down the path of the powerline. LMT will send the same letter to the MN Dept of Commerce that was sent to voice the Boards concerns.
Forada Fire Christmas Party- Jan.17th, 2025 Broadway Ballroom-5:30 PM: Forada Fire has invited the LMT Board to attend their annual Christmas Party.
NEW BUSINESS
Report of Outstanding Indebtedness(bonds): LMT has no Outstanding indebtedness to report.
REA Increase: Over the years LMT has gotten a discount on the monthly charge. REA is slowly phasing in a rate increase to catch up to the fixed rate of the cost of serving each REA account.The monthly fixed REA rate will increase in February, this 2025 is the last year of the 3-year phase-in.
Set meeting dates and times- Budget & Audit/ March monthly: The Budget and Audit meeting will be held on February 11th starting at 5:30 PM before the regular monthly meeting. The March monthly meeting will be held on Monday, March 10th at 7:00 PM.
Budget- rough draft: Sue Hanson presented a draft of the 2026 budget for the Board to review. A discussion was had.
2025 Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS): James Schmidt will review and submit the survey.
Board of Appeal and Equalization training: All 3-board member are current in their Board of Appeals training. James Schmidt and Pete Fernholz are current through July 2025 and Max Radil is current through July 2026.
Annual Meeting/Board of Canvas Meeting: The LMT Annual Meeting will be held on March 11th at 8:15 PM, immediately followed by the Board of Canvas Meeting.
Filings for Affidavits of Candidacy: LMT had 2 filings for the positions of Treasurer and supervisor. Max Radil and Christy Tvrdik are both running for office again.
Permanent Absentee Voters: Because of the 2024 legislative change to the voter registration form. That form now includes an area for voters to indicate their desire to automatically be mailed an absentee ballot for every election (permanent absentee voters) for districts in which they reside. Townships with March elections will be responsible for mailing ballots to their residents who are permanent absentee voters. LMT has 12 permanent absentee voters.
Appoint Election Judges/ Absentee Ballot Board for March 2025 Township elections: Sue Hanson presented a list of election judges to serve for the annual township election and other 2025 elections and the absentee ballot board. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve Resolution 01-25 appointing the absentee ballot board for the 2025 March annual election, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve Resolution 01-25A appointing the election judges for the March 2024 annual election and other 2025 elections that could occur, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
Mn Township Day: January 27, 2025: As of now, no one for LMT is attending.
Land Use/City of Alex Permits: None received for LMT.
Calendar: January and February calendars were reviewed.
Next Meetings-Mon., Feb 11th, 2025- Board of Audit meeting at 5:30 PM and February monthly meeting at 7:00 PM.
MAILBAG- The mailbag was reviewed and discussed.
A Motion was made by James Schmidt at 7:59 PM to adjourn the meeting, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
