October 14, 2025
The Lake Mary Township monthly meeting was called to order by Chairman James Schmidt with the pledge to the flag at 7:00 PM.

A motion was made by Max Radil to approve the agenda, seconded by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the claims and disbursements #6537–6547, PERA, and 941-2025-3 in the amount of $ 46,699.19, seconded by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
A motion was made by Max Radil to approve the September 2025 minutes, seconded by James Schmidt. Motion carried 3-0.
TREASURER'S
REPORT:
There are no outstanding checks. A motion
was made by James Schmidt to approve the Treasurer's Report as read, seconded
by Max Radil. Motion carried 3-0.
ITEMS FROM THE FLOOR: None
ROAD DISCUSSION:
Approach FernRoth Solar farm: The location of the temporary timber-framed approach for a transmission line access road was moved to Cross County Lane, and a permit was applied for. LMT approved the permit.
Deaf child sign- Little Mary Circle: LMT received a request for placement of a Deaf Child sign at 7355 Little Mary Circle. The residents moved from LaGrand Twp. LaGrand Twp. gave LMT their existing signs. Jeff Rundge will get posts and install.
City of Alexandria- invoice request: The City of Alexandria questioned the cost of maintenance on Cross County Lane for April, June, and July. Sue Hanson sent invoices showing maintenance costs, tree removal, new gravel, and chloride. A discussion was had. Moving forward, LMT will include the invoices and our breakdowns for Cross Country Lane.
New Gravel: A discussion was had. A motion was made by Max Radil to purchase 3 tons of gravel for 2026, 2nd by Peter Fernholz. Jeff Runge will get quotes for this.
2025 Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) Application: The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s State Aid for Local Transportation Office has opened the 2025 Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP). LMT is not interested in applying at this time.
OLD BUSINESS:
School Election November 4th,2025: A special election will be held for the ISD 206, November 4, 2025, for a Capital Project Levy. LMT will be the polling place location for LMT, Holmes City Twp., and Reno Twp. Voting hours will be from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Tax Forfeited Land Sale of parcels #30-0368-000 and 30-0365-000: The Douglas County Auditor’s office sent LMT a notice stating the township will not be receiving any proceeds from the Tax Forfeited Land Sale of parcels #30-0368-000 and 30-0365-000. Both of those properties forfeited during the state’s tax-forfeiture lawsuit lookback period of 6/23/2016 – 12/31/2023. Per new 2024 legislation, any TFL parcels from the lawsuit lookback period must be settled out, with 75% of the proceeds going to the state of Minnesota (to fund lawsuit claims) and the remaining 25% is retained by the county.
MN Paid Leave: Minnesota’s new Paid Leave program and law will take effect on January 1, 2026. This program will impact all employers, including townships. Paid Leave will be funded through a premium based on employee wages, set at 0.88% for large employers with over 30 employees and 0.66% for small employers with under 30 employees, collected by the State of Minnesota from employers. A discussion was had. Following the discussion, James Schmidt made a motion to designate Christy Tvrdik as the Paid Leave Administrator and to have Lake Mary Township pay 100% of the premium.Motion seconded by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
NEW BUSINESS:
ALASD 2025 sewer allocation: The ALASD Sewer District allocation for LMT 2026 is $64,560.00.
Variance Viewing – Johnson, Bluebill: Viewing and hearing on the application of the Steven G. and Abby M. Johnson Living Trust for a variance to allow a three-lot plat without connection to the central sewer (ALASD) on part of the west 10 acres of the east half of the southwest quarter of the southeast quarter, except the north 10 feet, Section 6 (Lake Mary Township). Zoning: RS (NES, Class A, Category 2), Skoglund Slough and Residential. A discussion was held. LMT will attend the viewing and hearing. LMT expressed concern about drainage in the area and will request that a drainage study be completed on the parcels before a variance is granted.
Pest Control: Heid and Seek Pest Control is in the process of selling their business and will no longer be servicing LMT. LMT has received pricing information from Complete Ground Control Pest Services and Steffel Pest Control Inc. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to hire Steffel Pest Control Inc. for a cost of $800.00 per year for monthly service for rodents and insects, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried 3-0.
Dangerous dog permit:A dangerous dog permit was applied for and issued by Douglas County for a resident on Little Mary Circle.
Audit reporting: Changes were made during the Minnesota Legislative Session in 2025 to the Audit and Agree-Upon Procedures Engagement (AUP) reporting requirements for townships. These changes raise the audit threshold in 2025, and state that it will be adjusted for inflation annually thereafter. These changes will not affect LMT; LMT will need to continue reporting as they have done in the past.
Land use/sewer permits: None received.
MAT-Annual Conference: The MAT-Annual Conference will be held December 11th-13th, 2025, in St. Cloud at Rivers Edge Convention Center.
Calendar: October and November calendars were reviewed
November meeting: The November 11, 2025, meeting needs to be moved due to Veterans Day. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to move the November monthly meeting to Monday, November 10, 2025, at 7:00 PM, seconded by Pete Fernholz. Motion carried 3-0.
MAIL BAG:
The mailbag was reviewed and discussed.
