Annual Township Meeting Minutes
March 14, 2023

The Lake Mary Township Annual Meeting was called to order at 8:15 p.m. by Clerk, Sue Hanson, with the pledge to the flag.
A motion was made by Pete Fernholz to elect James Schmidt moderator, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Minutes from the March 2022 Annual Meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Pete Fernholz to approve the 2023 minutes, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Election results:
LMT had a total of 20 voters, 2 absentee voters, and 1 spoiled ballot. Supervisor, James Schmidt, received 21 votes. Treasurer, Christy Tvrdik, received 21 votes. There were 0 write-ins.
Fire Protection requests:
Alexandria Fire Dept. sent a letter requesting $22,260.00 for 2024. Alexandria Fire Dept had 9 calls to LMT in 2022. A motion was made by Max Radil to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Donna Hoeper. Motion carried.
Bob Steidl representing the Forada Fire Dept. was present requesting $24,599.00 for 2024. Forada Fire has 20 active members. Forada Fire had 19 fire calls in 2022, non + in LMT. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Lowry Fire Dept., represented by D.J. Ashler, requesting $4,494.00 for 2024. This is based on a two-year contract that was approved last year so no motion needs to be made. Lowry Fire has 25 members. Lowry Fire responded to 2-3 calls in LMT in 2022.
First Responder requests:
Forada First Responders, represented by, Bob Steidl, requesting $ 2,000.00. Forada had 9 responder calls in Lake Mary Township in 2022. A motion was made by Pete Fernholz to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Holmes City First Responders, represented by Jackie Lanoue. sent a letter requesting $2,000.00. Holmes City 1st Responders responded to 43 calls, 18 of which were in LMT. Funding will be used towards new radios and deliberators. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount for 2024, 2nd by Sue Hanson. Motion Carried.
Lowry First Responders, represented by, D.J. Ashler, requesting $ 600.00 for 2024. Lowry 1st responders have 11 members, they responded to 5 calls in LMT in 2022. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Pete Fernholz. Motion Carried.
Donations:
Maple Lake swimming lessons, no representation or request for 2024.
AAEDC, represented by, Nicole Fernholz, requested $4,180.00 for 2024 which is the same as last year. A discussion was had. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Alexandria Senior Center sent a letter requesting a $1,000.00 donation. A discussion was had. A motion was made by Donna Hoeper to give $500.00 in 2024, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
Forada Days Forada days are no longer being held, no requests were made.
Other funding/Donations:
Douglas County Historical Society sent a letter requesting $50.00 for 2024. A motion was made by Max Radil to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Donna Hoeper. Motion Carried.
Community Ed (LAR), sent a letter requesting $3,400.00 for 2024. A discussion was had. A motion was made by Donna Hoeper to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Lyla Radil. Motion Carried.
Roads:
Roads were discussed: The installation of township-wide Swing Away mailbox supports is complete. The majority of blacktops have been reclaimed and resurfaced. Gravel, chloride, and culvert replacements were discussed.
Election Judges:
Sue Hanson, the clerk, reported LMT has 7 election judges: Lyla Radil, Lorraine Chan, Tammy Smedstad, Juanita Bolinger, Mary Kalina, Renae Hills,
Presentation of budget:
James Schmidt reviewed the proposed budget with LMT residents. A discussion was had. James Schmidt presented the following budget: General Receipts & Expenses, $$80,130.00, Fire Protection Receipts & Expenses,$51,312.00, Road Receipts & Expenses, $241,500.00 and Blacktop Receipts & Expenses, $80,392.00, for a total of $453,834.00. This does not include the amount for the Alexandria Lakes Area Sewer District (ALASD) sewer bond and interest, which will be determined by ALASD.
Set Tax Levy:
James Schmidt presented the amount of $453,834.00, not including the ALASD sewer bond and interest, for the 2024 Tax Levy for LMT. A motion was made by Pete Fernholz to set the 2024 Tax Levy, not including the ALASD sewer bond and interest at $453,834.00, 2nd by Lyla Radil. Motion Carried.
2024 Annual Meeting:
The March 2024 Annual meeting was set for March 12, 2021, at 8:15 p.m.
A motion was made by James Schmidt to adjourn the meeting at 9:20 PM., 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
