Annual Meeting Minutes 2024
The Lake Mary Township Annual Meeting was called to order at 8:15 PM by Clerk, Sue Hanson, with the pledge to the flag.
A motion was made by Max Radil to elect James Schmidt as moderator, 2nd by Brent Roth. Motion carried.
Minutes from March 2023 Annual Meeting were reviewed. A discussion was had. A motion was made by Tim Kalina to approve the 2023 minutes with a correction to the AAEDC donation statement, 2nd by Donna Hoeper. Motion carried.
Election results:
LMT had a total of 27 voters, 2 were absentee voters, and 0 spoiled ballots. Supervisor, Pete Fernholz, received 27 votes. Clerk, Sue Hanson, received 27 votes. There were 0 write-ins.
Fire Protection requests:
Alexandria Fire Dept. sent a letter requesting $29,354.00 for 2025. Alexandria Fire Dept had 7 calls to LMT in 2023. A motion was made by Brent Roth to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Tim Kalina. Motion carried.
Bob Steidl representing the Forada Fire Dept. was present requesting $35,337.00for 2025. Forada Fire has 24 active members. Forada Fire had 11 fire calls in 2023, 3 in LMT. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Brent Roth. Motion carried.
Lowry Fire Dept., represented by Kyle Nitchterm, requesting $4,583.00 for 2025 and $4,674.00 for 2026. Lowry Fire has 25 members. A motion was made by Tim Kalina to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Donna Hoeper. Motion carried.
First Responder requests:
Forada First Responders, represented by, Bob Steidl, requesting $ 2,000.00 for 2025. Forada had 19 responder calls in Lake Mary Township in 2023. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Brent Roth. Motion carried.
Holmes City First Responders sent a letter requesting $2,000.00. Holmes City 1st Responders responded to 13 calls in LMT in 2023. Funding will be used towards new radios and defibrillators. A motion was made by Max Radil to approve the requested amount for 2025, 2nd by Brent Roth. Motion Carried.
Lowry First Responders, represented by Jennifer Lundblad, requesting $ 690.00 for 2025. The money will be put towards a new rig and jackets. Lowry 1st responders have 11 members, they responded to 0 calls in LMT in 2023. A motion was made by James Schmidt to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Sue Hanson. Motion Carried.
Donations:
Maple Lake swimming lessons sent a letter requesting $500.00 for 2025. Swimming lessons were held in 2023 and will be held again in 2024. A motion was made by Lyla Radil to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Tim Kalina. Motion carried.
AAEDC, a resolution was passed April 11, 2023 whereas, LakeMaryTownshippledged itsparticipationinthe AlexandriaAreaEconomicDevelopment Commissionandalsopledgesfinancialcommitmentintheamountof $4,180.00fortheyear2024.Thiscontributionwill increaseby5%perannumthroughtheyear2026.At that time,theTownshipBoardwill reevaluate theirparticipation. No motion was needed.
Alexandria Senior Center sent a letter requesting a $500.00 donation. A discussion was had. A motion was made by Max Radil to give $500.00 in 2025, 2nd by Brent Roth. Motion carried.
Forada Days Forada days are no longer being held, no requests were made.
Other funding/Donations:
Douglas County Historical Society sent a letter requesting $50.00 for 2025. A motion was made by Donna Hoeper to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Lyla Radil. Motion Carried.
Community Ed (LAR), sent a letter requesting $3,400.00 for 2025. A discussion was had. A motion was made by Sue Hanson to approve the requested amount, 2nd by Lyla Radil. Motion Carried.
Roads: Tim Kalina commented that Bluebird Lane was not being plowed as it should be in the winter and graded in the summer. Bluebird Lane is no longer a minimum-maintenance road. James Schmidt will check into this.
Election Judges:
Sue Hanson, the clerk, reported LMT has 7 election judges: Lyla Radil, Lorraine Chan, Tammy Smedstad, Juanita Bolinger, Mary Kalina, Renae Hills,
Presentation of budget:
James Schmidt reviewed the proposed budget with LMT residents. A discussion was had. James Schmidt presented the following budget: General Receipts & Expenses, $80,929.00, Fire Protection Receipts & Expenses,$69,274.00, Road Receipts & Expenses, $261,000.00, and Blacktop Receipts & Expenses, $83,607.00, for a total of $494.818.00. This does not include the amount for the Alexandria Lakes Area Sewer District (ALASD) sewer bond and interest, which will be determined by ALASD.
Set Tax Levy:
James Schmidt presented the amount of $494.818.00, not including the ALASD sewer bond and interest, for the 2025 Tax Levy for LMT. A motion was made by James Schmidt to set the 2025 Tax Levy, not including the ALASD sewer bond and interest at $494.818.00, 2nd by Tim Kalina. Motion Carried.
2024 Annual Meeting:
The March 2025 Annual meeting was set for March 11, 2025, at 8:15 PM
A motion was made by James Schmidt to adjourn the meeting at 9:20 PM, 2nd by Max Radil. Motion carried.
